A shorter horror film night
A shorter running time can make choosing easier; it does not mean the film will be gentler. These are feature-length choices from HEX’s existing runtime-checked selection. Editions can differ, so check the version offered by your viewing service.
Choose your route
For suggestion and atmosphere, start with Cat People. For a night that becomes frantic, choose Evil Dead II. House is the stranger option; The Blair Witch Project and Host make restricted viewpoints part of their appeal. Runtime is a practical filter, not a measure of intensity.
Cat People
A choice for quiet unease and the power of suggestion. Put it first if you want to notice how much fear can come from waiting and uncertainty, rather than demanding a constant procession of visible threats.
Explore Cat People (1942) on HEXHouse
Choose this when familiarity is the problem. Its place here is a house film that refuses a restrained, predictable approach. A short running time gives you room for something visually unruly without committing the whole evening.
Explore House (1977) on HEXEvil Dead II
For a more frantic evening. This is a different proposition from the patient unease of Cat People: movement, physical performance and escalation drive the experience. Choose according to the energy you want, not simply the minutes available.
Explore Evil Dead II (1987) on HEXThe Blair Witch Project
Choose restricted information. The interest lies in being stuck with the characters’ viewpoint, without a reassuring overview of what surrounds them. It is a useful starting point for comparing how horror can make absence feel threatening.
Explore The Blair Witch Project (1999) on HEXHost
For a compact screen-based experience. The familiar video-call layout provides both connection and separation: people can watch each other without sharing a room. Pair it with The Blair Witch Project to compare two very different ways of limiting what the audience can see.
